Protecting a cloud infrastructure and data requires a comprehensive knowledge of various threats to the cloud environment and components. This module aims to introduce the essential cloud security concepts, terminology, tools and skills required to secure cloud environments.

  • Basic security, threat terminologies: Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability (CIA), Vulnerabilities, common threats, private vs. public security
  • Fundamentals of cryptography and key vaults
  • Data privacy, Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Practical hands-on Lab session on cloud security tools
  • Intrusion Detection System (IDS) & Prevention System

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

  • Apply the CIA security triangle and examine vulnerabilities.
  • Describe the role of cryptography in cloud security.
  • Design and develop secure systems with data privacy and access controls.
  • Perform security checks using cloud security tools.
  • Design an effective IDS taking the various security aspects into account. 

Prerequisite(s) and Corequisite(s)

If you are new to cloud computing, it is strongly recommended to complete Module 1 – YCWPD 089 Introduction to Cloud Computing prior to registering for Module 2.
