Description

French for Healthcare Professionals: Elementary is designed for current or future health care professionals who wish to improve their communication skills in French. The course focuses on oral skills necessary to function effectively and professionally in real-life healthcare settings.

Topics Covered

Classes will provide instruction in listening and speaking at a elementary level. Course content, including grammatical structures, phonetics, situational vocabulary and functional expressions, aims to help the students develop the elementary communicative skills required to operate in simple social and work-related contexts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Use an elementary vocabulary specific to simple social and work-related contexts;
  • Ask and answer a variety of questions related to familiar and/or general interest topics;
  • Speak briefly about their work environment and their tasks, about present, past and future  actions;
  • Produce a variety of short oral messages in predictable and semi-predictable contexts;
  • Interact with French speakers within a variety of simple work-related situations;
  • Globally understand a variety of simple oral exchanges embedded in simple but non-adapted settings.

Notes

As the course will be delivered online, students must be equipped with:

  • A computer or tablet
  • Internet connection

In order to continue to the next level, learners must complete both the online and the face-to-face courses for this level.

Current or future healthcare workers with an elementary level of French.
