Description

French for Healthcare Professionals: Basic is designed for current or future health care professionals who wish to improve their communication skills in French. The course focuses on oral skills necessary to function effectively and professionally in real-life healthcare settings.

Topics Covered

Classes will provide instruction in listening and speaking at a basic level. Course content, including grammatical structures, phonetics and situational vocabulary, aims to help students acquire the basic communicative skills required to operate in simple everyday and work-related settings.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Use a basic vocabulary specific to simple everyday and workplace contexts;
  • Ask and answer simple questions related to concrete and familiar topics;
  • Give simple instructions in a work-related context;
  • Produce simple oral messages in various predictable contexts;
  • Give basic information about themselves, their patients and their daily activities;
  • Understand simple requests or instructions; globally understand short oral exchanges embedded in simplified and adapted settings.

Notes

As the course will be delivered online, students must be equipped with:

  • A computer or tablet
  • Internet connection

In order to continue to the next level, learners must complete both the online and the face-to-face courses for this level.

Prerequisite(s) and Corequisite(s)

Placement test or signed waiver form to be exempted from the placement test for students with no or very little background in French.
