6.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

This course explores issues and techniques relevant to financing private companies. Focus is placed on business planning and financial modeling, positioning the business for financing, structuring, raising capital, negotiations and loan agreements. Course assignments will provide students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge to realistic cases to reinforce practical skills.

35 hours of in-class instruction; 30 hours of reading, assignments and case studies.

  • Understand the valuator’s role in assessing business plans and financial proposals
  • Assess a private company’s financing options
  • Measure a private company’s financing needs
  • Assess a private company’s credit capacity
  • Develop marketing documents and proposals
  • Identify and approach potential investors
  • Determine the right lending source
  • Negotiate with lenders, equity providers, or alternative financiers
  • Negotiate buy-outs and merger
