Description

This course is designed to provide the strategies and tools necessary to succeed on the TEF, TEF Canada and TEFaQ speaking tests. This is an 18-hour course. Students will attend 12 hours (2 hours per week) of large group instruction by a lecturer with experience in teaching and assessing oral skills and 6 hours (1 hour per week) in small groups with conversation partners. This will give them the opportunity to practice many of the topics on the assessment with a trained conversation partner who is familiar with the test. This makes the training a total of 18 hours.

Topics Covered

  • The structure of the two parts of the test
  • The specific grammatical structures of oral grammar useful in the oral expression tests
  • Specific vocabulary useful for the tests
  • Knowledge of the evaluation criteria for the two parts of the test

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Interact with French speakers in formal situations
  • Interact with French speakers in informal situations
  • Master the vocabulary of the topics of real-life situations for a B2 level
  • Apply time management strategies for the speaking test
  • Adapt their language register to the communication situation
  • Defend their opinions in a structured manner
  • Be confident in their speaking skills

Notes

As the course will be delivered online in synchronous mode, the students will need to have:

  • A computer or tablet with web camera
  • Internet connection

Prerequisite(s) and Corequisite(s)

A minimum of a strong A2 or B1 level in French

Who Should Attend?

Students who have at least a low intermediate level (A2 strong or B1) and who need to reach at least the high intermediate level (B2) of the TEF speaking test and its derivatives: TEFaQ and TEF Canada
