Description

We will first discuss the causes, issues, and politics that led up to the war. We will then study the war, not the battlefields, as seen primarily through the novels, poetry, and memoirs of Erich Maria Remarque, Ernest Hemingway, Pat Barker, Wilfred Owen, Rupert Brooke, Robert Graves and Vera Brittain. Finally, we will discuss the Armistice and the Treaty of Versailles, and briefly look at the immediate post-war history.
