Description

The Northern Renaissance is associated primarily with painting, yet this course will also examine its broader visual, material, and political culture. It will cover the period from the Council of Constance (1414–18), which marked the end of the Great Schism, to around 1566 and the iconoclastic riots in the Low Countries. For some robust class discussions, The Northern Renaissance by Susie Nash offers an excellent preparation.
