YCOFR 350 - High Intermediate French for Social Services (Online Self-Directed)
Description
High Intermediate French for Social Services (Online Self-Directed) is designed for current or future social service workers who wish to improve their communication skills in French. The course focuses on oral skills necessary to function effectively and professionally in real-life social worker settings. It is comprised of five learning modules, each with approximately six hours of learning time. The first four modules will contain presentations, videos, exercises, and interactive activities in four main areas: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and listening comprehension. The fifth module is a learning assessment module. It involves three tasks in which learners are asked to demonstrate their knowledge from the previous four modules. These tasks assess their skills in oral comprehension, written comprehension, and written expression.Topics Covered

- Social service workers situations and follow-up procedures.
- Expressions of time and sequence of events.
- Polite phrases and breaking bad news.
- Mental health and social issues.
- Workplaces, cardinal points, and expressions of place.
- Vocabulary related to medical follow-up and recommendations.
- Expressions for agreeing and disagreeing, opinions, and advice.
- The healthcare system and professions in the social sector.
- Emotions and reactions in a professional context.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration and communication between colleagues.
- Project organization, planning, and looking ahead.
Learning Outcomes

In terms of grammatical concepts, participants should be able to use:
- The present tense (regular verbs, irregular verbs, and special cases).
- The present perfect tense (reflexive verbs, agreement, and special cases).
- Verbs of movement.
- The imperative (instructions, orders).
- Prepositions and expressions of place.
- The present subjunctive (emotions, obligations, wishes).
- The present conditional (recommendations, hypotheses, wishes).
- Modals: devoir, falloir, pouvoir.
- The different futures and tense agreement in the future.

As the course will be delivered online, students must be equipped with:
