Description

Each session will explore the voice of George Eliot as expressed in her first and final publication, as well as the literary arc of her writing. In-class presentations will be encouraged. Required reading: “The Sad Fortunes of the Rev. Amos Barton” from Scenes of Clerical Life (1857); “The Modern Hep! Hep! Hep!” from Impressions of Theophrastus Such (1897). Both texts are available online for download. Recommended reading: any biography of George Eliot.
