8.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Introduction to data engineering fundamentals, focusing on designing, building, and managing scalable data systems. Exploration of the lifecycle of large data sets - from ingestion to processing and storage - across on-premises and Cloud environments. Working with data-at-rest and data-in-motion (streaming data), using modern tools and techniques to create robust data pipelines. Topics include the essentials of handling large data sets (Volume, Velocity, Variety, Veracity, and Value), data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, and key technologies driving data engineering today.

Supplementary Information

20 hours of lectures and 60 hours of independent study. Course may be offered in person or online with synchronous and asynchronous activities.

The passing grade for this course and prerequisite courses is B-.

RESTRICTION: Not open to students who have taken YCBS 257 - Data at Scale.
