Description

Each week, discussion will be prompted by big questions raised in a short piece of philosophical writing, distributed in advance, starting with Plato’s cave. Philosophy is a conversation that requires participants to be open-minded and willing to change their view of the world if given good reasons to do so, unlike the cave dwellers (though perhaps they’re right!). The moderator will include readings from writers across different historical periods and cultures to explore questions such as: Is there a proper role for women in society? How do we live a good life? Why accept science? and What is knowledge?
