Description

An examination of the assumption that Indigenous literature represents authentic Indigenous voices. We will read, discuss, and explore background on the creation of novels by Indigenous authors and the life of such works as they enter and are reframed by the mainstream. Novels will include Jean’s Kokum, Wagamese’s Starlight, Pokagan’s Ogimawkwe Mitigwaki, Naapaaluk’s Sanaaq and a novel chosen by our study group. Our journey will culminate in a visit to the Centre Sanaaq at Cabot Square, a recent physical manifestation of Naapaaluk’s novel. The moderator is a Citizen Potawatomi Nation enrollee and author.
