Description

With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union, new democracies began to emerge throughout the world. Many of us believed that liberal democracy had triumphed, allowing for a more prosperous and equitable world. Twenty-five years later, the story is different. As the radical right surges in much of the world, there is growing fear that fascism is making a comeback. In this study group, we will seek to understand what fascism is. Is it an ideology? How does it work? Is fascism today comparable to early 20th century European fascism? What role do conspiracy theories play? These are just some of the questions we will explore. Discussion will be strongly encouraged.
