Description

Every known human culture has created music. How can this be possible? What is it about music that is so important, and so apparently intrinsic to human development? Why do we love music? This study group will try to answer these questions, looking at how music works and the role it plays in human culture. We will investigate how it is created, performed, recorded, and enjoyed, in a variety of settings and for a vast variety of reasons, throughout the world and throughout history. Music is so diverse that we will only scratch the surface – but it will be fun! You should bring your enthusiasm and be prepared to contribute your own musical preferences and knowledge.
