Description

This study group will focus on Eliot's novel Daniel Deronda as a means of exploration of Jewish life within British society at the time (1876). Eliot’s fervent belief in Zionism as an answer to the Jewish Question, "the other" is revealed to the reader within this book. All participants are encouraged to read the novel before the first meeting (Oxford World Classics is a good edition). Relevant chapters or sections will be examined each week to stimulate discussion pertaining to Eliot's life and her perspective on Judaism.
