Description

Western power in colonial Africa and Asia influenced the settings of many memorable novels. We will discuss selected novels as well as the historical events from which they arose. Examples would be African expansion and Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, The Great Game in Central Asia and Kipling’s Kim, French and later American presence in Indochina and Greene’s The Quiet American, The British Raj in India and Forster’s A Passage to India. Participants can choose one of the novels to read and focus on.
