Description

Leadership and historical context directly influence the effectiveness of militaries at war. For each of our five presentations, we will interrogate the performances of six leading commanders during their campaigns in South Africa, World Wars I and II and Vietnam: British Field Marshal Frederick Roberts (1900), Canadians Lieutenant General Arthur Currie (1917-18) and Major-General Andrew McNaughton (1915-1918) and (1939-1943), Canadian Major-General Harry Foster (1944), British Air Marshal Arthur “Bomber” Harris (1943-44) and American General William Westmoreland (1964-68).
