Description

In this course we will study three 20th century Irish plays: A Playboy of the Western World (Synge), Dancing at Lughnasa (Friel) and The Weir (McPherson). Synge’s iconic comedy of 1906 sets the stage for the importance of language in 20th Century Irish drama, though we should also pay attention to what is not said. We will mostly be discussing, but short, relevant presentations are always welcome. (plays available online or in our library).
