What is it that makes a celebrity? We shall examine critically the concept of modern celebrity: why some talented (and even some untalented) individuals are celebrities and others are not. Short presentations will be invited on celebrity actors and directors (both stage and film), musicians and musical groups, artists, writers, politicians, scientists, criminals, religious preachers, and even “people who are famous for being famous”. All registering for this study group will be expected to give at least two very short talks on some aspect of the topic.
