This practical course aims to prepare participants to obtain the Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel Associate Certification. Emphasis is placed on developing fundamental Excel skills necessary to create and edit professional spreadsheets for a variety of purposes and situations, and to gain practical experience in creating, editing, and managing workbooks. Skills measured by the MO-200: Microsoft Excel (Office 2019) exam include: managing worksheets and workbooks; data cells and ranges; tables and table data; performing operations by using formulas and functions, and managing charts.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
  1. Explain what Excel is and what it can do, navigate a worksheet, identify elements on the Excel screen, and use keyboard shortcuts.
  2. Edit cells, copy, cut, and paste data, use special paste, insert, and delete cells, move, and delete worksheets, use AutoFit, insert, and delete rows and columns, and rename worksheets.
  3. Use formulas and explain what formulas are and how they are used, create, and edit simple formulas, use math operators, reference other worksheets, use common functions, if function, text functions, use absolute and relative cells, and display formulas.
  4. Format number and decimal places, merge and wrap text, change fonts and font size, apply background colours and patterns, use the format painter, use cell styles, and apply and remove conditional formatting.
  5. Create and arrange worksheet windows, split, and freeze panes, change printing margins, orientation, and scale, use different workbook views, and print selected worksheets.
  6. Create and change charts, create chart sheets, create chart designs, add new data to charts, preview charts for printing, and use the Quick Analysis tool.
  7. Create, modify, and delete named ranges, use the Go To feature, convert a range of cells into a table, sort data, filter data, and apply and remove formatting on a table.
  8. Customize the Quick Access toolbar, create, modify, and delete hyperlinks, import, and export data, change workbook document properties, and use the document inspector tool.

Notes

Hardware Requirements
For optimal learning experience, we recommend using a PC.
The Certification exam will be delivered through Certiport using Windows environment.

Software Requirements
PC: Windows 10 or later.
Microsoft Excel 2019 or Microsoft Excel 365 (not included in the course fee).
Software must be installed before the start of the course.

Certification Exam Information
Certification exams are delivered in-person at the School of Continuing Studies at scheduled times.

All cancellation & substitution requests must be made in writing to pce.scs@mcgill.ca.

  • Receive a full refund if your cancellation request is received up to 7 days prior to the start date of the workshop.
  • Receive a refund minus $50 cancellation fee if your cancellation request is received up to 7 days prior to the start date of the workshop.
  • No Refunds are issued if your cancellation request is received within 7 days of the start date of the workshop, however suitable participation substitution will be permitted.

Please note that if no notice is given prior to the start of the event(s) and you fail to attend, you will be liable for the full workshop fee.
